Waukesha, Wis. – The Carroll University women's soccer team tied 1-1 with CCIW opponent Wheaton in today's match. This is the first time the Pioneers have tied with the Thunder since 2017. Carroll's Grace Tumilty took control for the Pioneers with nine shots, four of them being on target, and being the only Pioneer to find the back of the net on the night.
The Pioneers (8-4-2) took 18 shots compared to just four taken by Wheaton. The Pios were only able to get five shots on target. Carroll was able to win three corner kicks throughout the course of the game but would not be able to capitalize on any of them. Senior, Caitlin Fitzsimons made one save off the four shots faced.
To open the game Carroll would take five shots at the Thunder in the opening 20 minutes of play. The intensity of Pioneers was clear as Wheaton's goalie was forced to make four saves on the first four attempts. Carroll would continue the pressure, keeping the ball in their half of the attacking field. In the 31' minute of the half, Brielle Ingalsbee played a great through ball to Tumilty. Tumilty would take one touch and put it in the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead. Just three minutes later Wheaton would find one of their few opportunities of the night and make the most of tying the game 1-1. Tumilty would take one more shot before the end of the half, but it would be saved, leading to 1-1 score going into the break.
Coming out of the half, Carroll looked to keep the pressure on, as the Pios fired off three shots in the first five minutes of the half forcing two more saves by the Wheaton keeper. Carroll would continue firing shots off and keeping the momentum with them but wouldn't be able to capitalize on another goal. Senior Ally Scoma and Tumilty would both get good looks on goal in the 69' minute but would both miss wide. Carroll wouldn't be able to score another goal after controlling much of the game and walked away with a 1-1 tie.
Carroll, the number two ranked team in the conference is back at home with conference play as the current number one ranked North Central Cardinals come to Schneider Stadium on Saturday, October 14th. The homecoming game starts at opponent at 5:00 PM.
