Waukesha, Wis. -- Carroll University's women's soccer team notches another "W" in CCIW play after knocking off Illinois Wesleyan 1-0 earlier today. This is the first time the Pioneers have beaten the Titans since 2018. Carroll's Brielle Ingalsbee led the way for the Pioneers with five shots, one of them being on target, and being the only player to find the back of the net on the day.
The Pioneers (8-4-1) took 15 shots, with five being on target. Carroll was able to win seven corner kicks throughout the course of the game. Senior, Caitlin Fitzsimons had an easy day in the box facing just five shots. Fitzsimons was able to make three saves and tallied her sixth clean sheet of the year.
To open the game Carroll would take five shots at the Titans in the opening 15 minutes of the game. The intensity of Pioneers was clear when Ingalsbee fired a shot just off the mark. Carroll would come back down and find themselves in a set piece off a corner kick. The Pios wouldn't be able to capitalize on it. However, in the 41' minute of the half, Ingalsbee would receive a great ball from Maura Jordan. Ingalsbee would capitalize and give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead going into the half.
Coming out of the half, Carroll looked to keep the pressure on, as senior Jo Ueland would take shot that would have to be saved by the Titans keeper in the first five minutes of the half. Carroll would continue firing shots off and keeping the momentum with them, but wouldn't be able to capitalize on another goal. In the final four minutes of the game Illinois Wesleyan would attempt to come back firing off two shots, but Carroll would remain composed, regain possession, and dribble out the final seconds of the game to walk away with a 1-0 victory.
Carroll looks to continue their strong conference play at home as they welcome Wheaton to Schneider Stadium on Wednesday, October 11th, to faceoff with the CCIW opponent at 7:00 PM.
