BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Carroll University men's indoor track and field team capped off day one of the 2023 CCIW Indoor Track and Field Championships with 16 points to sit in sixth place.
 
In field events, the Pioneers gained 14 team points from the men's weight throwers. Steven Hermsen led the pack with a finish of 18.85m to land a new season-best. All four of Hermsen's throws that were in bounds were over 18 meters. Jimmy Hinkley finished with a fifth-place throw of 17.36 and Will Campbell finished in seventh with a 15.40m toss for a new PR.
 
The Carroll men's DMR team comprised of Bailey Olson, Nathan Raatz, Ethan Weber and Kyle Adams finished seventh to score two team points with a time of 11:01.50.
 
Carroll will wrap up the championships tomorrow, with events starting at noon.
