Carroll Men’s Lacrosse Struggles First Game in Nashville

Waukesha, Wis. – The Carroll University men's lacrosse team lost the first game of their trip to Nashville. LaGrange College came ready to play and walked away with a 5-15 victory over the Pioneers. Senior Josh Kovach led the way for the Pioneers with two goals on the day. Three other Pioneers contributed goals on the night.

The Pioneers (1-4) got up 21 shots during the game and capitalized on five of the shot attempts getting 16 shots on goal. Jake Gehl faced 57 shots throughout the game, with 38 shots on target. Gehl was able to make a season-high 23 saves. Spencer Lautner and Brady Raczkowski led the team in ground balls and caused turnovers, as Carroll grabbed 31 ground balls and forced eight turnovers.

Kovach scored in the first minute of the game to put the Pioneers up early. Carroll would get several man-up opportunities throughout the first period. However, LaGrange would go on a 3-0 run to take a 1-3 lead into the second period. Carroll would struggle to find a rhythm going, as LaGrange started to take advantage of the Pioneers' mistakes. Ten turnovers would the downfall for the Pioneers in the second period as the Panthers would score three unanswered in the second period. Coming out of halftime down 1-6 the Pioneers looked to get the offense going. However, LaGrange would open up to the half pushing the point run to a 9-0. With 4:57 left in the third period, Roman Stanley would score to give the Pioneers some life. However, LaGrange would respond to the play after to take a 2-10 lead. Carroll didn't stop fighting, as Lautner found the back of the net to bring the Pioneer back within seven. LaGrange was able to respond with a 2-0 run to take a 3-12 lead into the final period. LaGrange would score the opening two goals of the final period. However, Carroll would then respond with a 2-0 run of their own. Kovach and Jake Kopocis would score the final two goals of the day for Carroll. LaGrange would run away with a 5-15 victory.

The Pioneers return to action against Hendrix College, as Carroll looks to go 1-1 in Nashville. The noon (Est.) game is Sunday, Mar. 12 at Montgomery Ball Academy.
