MCMINNVILLE, Ore. – The Carroll University women's lacrosse team scored five goals in the fourth quarter to secure a strong win over Linfield College on Monday night by a score of 14-8.
Katrina Hardin led with six goals, followed by
Janu Patel with four and
Abby Stas with two.
The Pioneers (5-1) battled with a lead all night against the Cats, who outshot Carroll 29-25.
Alicia Van Dale had a season-high 11 saves in goal to keep the Pioneers in control of the contest. The Pios committed just 18 turnovers and forced 14 from Linfield, while Carroll completed 30-35 clear attempts. The Pios won 12 of 26 possible draw controls, led by Hardin with five.
The Pios began the game with a save from Van Dale and a goal from Patel to open things up inside the first three minutes. Hardin got on the stat sheet with 4:58 left in the first quarter after two shots from
Samantha Hurd. Hardin scored once more with less than a minute left in the first quarter to take a 3-0 advantage. Linfield scored to open up the second, but
Grace Brockman won the draw control to give possession back to the Pioneers. Minutes later Hardin scored her hat trick to force a Linfield timeout. Patel scored twice more and
Rebecca Hallman scored her first of the night to close out the first half. Carroll led 7-1 after the first 30 minutes.
Hardin scored first on a pass from Brockman in the third quarter, but Linfield responded with a goal a little over a minute later. Brockman and Hardin connected once more as both teams' offensives shifted into gear. Linfield ripped off four-straight goals in the third to cut the game down to three going into the final quarter. The Pios had enough and scored five straight to put the game out of reach for the Cats, as Van Dale recorded three saves and allowed just two more goals the rest of the contest.
Carroll returns to the field tomorrow afternoon in Tacoma, Washington, as they take on Puget Sound at 3 PM PST.
