TACOMA, Wash. – The Carroll University women's lacrosse team outscored Puget Sound 7-2 in the second half to clinch a 15-9 road victory on Tuesday afternoon.
Katrina Hardin scored five times while winning eight draw controls. Arianna Cullam and
Megan Juergensen each had two caused turnovers.
The Pioneers (6-1) were tied neck in neck with the Loggers at the end of the first half in total shots, but Carroll took over in the second half, outshooting them 13-7.
Rebecca McDaniel got the win in the dual, recording one save and allowing two goals on the night.
Alicia Van Dale got the start in goal and tallied two saves. The Pios forced 24 Puget Sound turnovers and completed 13-16 clear attempts.
Rebecca Hallman put the Pioneers up on the board first with a goal inside the first minute of the game. The Loggers evened the game and went on a run after
Janu Patel scored a free-position goal. Hardin leveled the game again going into the second quarter, 3-3. Both teams traded goals, but the Pios held the advantage at halftime leading 8-7. Carroll converted on three free position goals in the second quarter, led by
Abby Stas.
Hardin and
Lexi Kaltenberg led the charge in the second half, scoring twice to boost their lead to 10-7. Puget Sound brought Carroll's lead down to two but another free position goal scored by Patel pushed Carroll back up three heading into the final quarter. Puget Sound won the first two draws of the third quarter and scored right away, but the Pios weren't rattled. Hardin led the charge for Carroll, scoring twice in the quarter as Carroll racked up four goals in a span of four minutes.
The Pios have one more foe to face out West this week, taking on George Fox on Thursday, March 16, to wrap up their 2023 spring break trip.
