Hanover, Ind. – The Carroll University men's lacrosse team lost 3-15 against Hanover College yesterday. Three Pioneers all got on the board to score Carroll's three goals on the day.
Jake Wright led the way for the Pioneers with a season-high 14 ground balls. Wright also helped the Pios go 18-4 on face-offs throughout the game.
The Pioneers (1-6) got up 35 shots during the game and capitalized on just three of the shot attempts.
Jake Gehl faced 59 shots throughout the game. Gehl was able to make 17 saves.
Sam McGoon had two of Carroll's six caused turned overs.
Brandon Welsek was able to get five shots on goal but only capitalize on one of the attempts.
Carroll would win the opening face-off and get off two quick shots before a turnover would ultimately lead to Hanover scoring their first goal of the day. This would spell disaster for the Pioneers as they would go cold and Hanover would score nine unanswered goals taking a 0-9 lead into the half. Carroll would finally get on the board with 6:56 left in the third period as
Roman Stanley scored his first goal of the day. However, Carroll would turn the ball over on the following possession, sparking a 3-0 run to end the period 1-13 Hanover. The two teams would battle in the fourth quarter until halfway through
Zachary Szuba scored a goal. Hanover would answer by going on another 2-0 run. Welsek would get on the board with under a minute to go in the game. This would leave the score at 3-15 and end up being the final.
The Pioneers are on the road again against Trine University March 18, 7:00 PM (Est.) in Angola, Ind.
