Carroll Men’s Lacrosse Get Back in The Win Column

Beloit, Wis. – The Carroll University men's lacrosse team won their first road game of the season 7-5 against Beloit College. Brady Revnew and Ethan Phillips both freshmen led the way for the Pioneers scoring three goals apiece. Phillips finished with two goals and an assist and Revnew contributed three assists on the night.

 The Pioneers (2-7) got up 31 shots during the game and capitalized on seven of the shot attempts getting 18 shots on goal. Jake Gehl faced just 30 shots throughout the game, with 11 shots on target. Gehl was able to make 14 saves. Gehl also led the Pioneers in groundballs with three. Spencer Lautner had two caused turnovers, as Carroll grabbed 17 ground balls and forced seven turnovers.

The two teams started the game in a defensive battle for the first five minutes. Until Beloit would finally crack the seal off the net and go up 0-1. However, less than one minute later Brandon Welsek would return the favor and score a goal, evening things back up. Beloit would find a rhythm and go on a 2-0 run to end the period. Josh Kovach would respond coming out of the second period scoring a goal in the first minute to bring it back to a one-possession game. This would spark a 3-0 run for the Pioneers as Zach Szuba and Phillips each scored to give Carroll a 4-3 lead with 8:28 to go in the half. The game would turn into a back-and-forth battle as Beloit would fight back to take a 4-5 lead with just four minutes left in the half. Phillips would find the back of the net once again to end the half in a 5-5 draw. Coming out of the half it was a defensive battle and Carroll's defense prevailed. The Pios would keep Beloit scoreless in the second half. Welsek would find his second goal of the night to give Carroll back the lead and score the only goal in the third period. With five minutes to go in the game, Kovach would score a dagger putting the Pioneers up 7-5 and ultimately sealing the victory.

The Pioneers return to action against Milwaukee School of Engineering on Sunday, Mar. 25 in Milwaukee, Wis. Carroll hopes to end their six game road trip with a win.
