WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Carroll University women's lacrosse team came back from four goals down and went on to beat the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Eagles on Wednesday night, 20-11.
Clara Jelacic snapped her career-record number of draw controls with 25 while scoring seven points on six goals.
The Pioneers (4-1) dominated in the shot department 46-20, while Carroll tallied five saves. The Pioneers were very efficient in clear attempts, going 13-19. All of Carroll's won draws came from Jelacic, holding the Eagles to just 10. The Pios had 11 free position attempts due to fouls inside the eight-meter arc.
The Pios were down 5-1 at the 12:53 mark of the second quarter, but
Lexi Kaltenberg provided the spark to get the Pioneers back into the game. Jelacic,
Katrina Hardin, and
Samantha Hurd all scored before halftime, cutting the deficit to one going into the break.
Janu Patel scored the equalizer and
Rebecca Hallman scored Carroll's go-ahead goal with eleven minutes left in the third quarter. The Eagles knotted things up at 10 in the same period, but the Pios responded with two goals by Jelacic and one from Hardin. Carroll allowed one goal to start the fourth quarter, but then ripped off six straight goals to cap off the game in a demanding way.
Carroll heads out West in the coming days to face three teams in their spring break trip. The Pioneers will start the trip against Linfield University in McMinnville, Oregon.
