WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Carroll University men's outdoor track and field team hosted the 2023 Private College Invitational on Sunday, April 2. Carroll finished in second place at the meet with 114 team points. The Pioneers were paced by event winners in Trenton Nickel, Peter Marra, and Steven Hermsen. Jimmy Hinkley cracked his school-record PR in the hammer throw as well.

In track events, Marra swept both hurdles events, winning the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.22 and the 400m hurdles with a quick 56.26. Nickel secured a win in the tightly contested 400-meter dash, winning with a 51.41. Kevin Lind grabbed a second-place finish in the 100m dash, which was followed by Nathan Raatz's fourth-place 800m run. Lind and Carter Ratcliff secured eight team points in the 200-meter dash, with times separated by 0.05 seconds. A trio of Kyle Adams, Spencer Kirsteatter, and Peter Carty all gained team points late in the day during the 5K. The men's 4x400 team comprised of Sawyer Caves, Nickel, Raatz, and Jacob Radovan was .05 seconds away from a first-place finish but settled for second with a time of 3:27.78.

In field events, Hermsen, the defending two-time NCAA Champion in the discus, won handily, throwing an already impressive 54.03 meters. Hermsen now sits number one in the Nation, four meters above the next closest throw. Hermsen also gained team points in the hammer throw and shot put event. Hinkley smashed his PR by just under a full meter, tossing his hammer 57.30 meters. Will Campbell added team points with a fifth-place finish in the shot put, and Brady Reusser grabbed a seventh place in the discus too for the men's throwers.
