Pio Men Win Marquette Invitational

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Carroll University men's outdoor track and field squad put up 114 team points to take down D1 and D2 talent at the Marquette Invitational on Saturday. Steven Hermsen won three events while Peter Marra won one.
 
In sprinting events, Marra won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.39, beating out two hurdlers from UW-Parkside. In the 400 hurdles, Marra finished third with a time just over 1:00.00. Kevin Lind and Carter Ratcliff collected 17 total team points with top eight finishes in the 100m dash and 200m dash. Ratcliff posted a new PR in the 200 as well. Trenton Nickel earned five team points with a fourth-place showing in the 400m. In the longer distanced events, Nathan Raatz barely missed second place in the 800m run and gained six points. Kyle Adams also finished third with a time of 15:08.18 in the 5000m run. The Pios assembled a 4x400 team of River Sterud, Jacob Radovan, Sawyer Caves, and Ethan Weber that finished sixth.
 
In throws, Hermsen put up three more victories to his season total, winning the hammer with a throw of 55.85m, the discus with a toss of 54.64m, and the shot put with a distance of 15.75m. Brady Reusser and Will Campbell added team points in the shot put and discus, while Juan Ocampo collected a top-eight finish in the hammer. Campbell PR'd in the discus. Logan Froseth put up a sixth-place effort in the javelin throw to round out the team points.
 
The Pioneers will have a Friday meet next week, back at UW-Whitewater for the Drake Alternative Meet.
