5/12/2023 10:37:00 PM

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – The Carroll University men's outdoor track and field team sent two different groups to two different final qualifiers this week for a chance to break school records or advance their marks for a chance at the 2023 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field National Championships.

On Thursday, Steven Hermsen, Jimmy Hinkley, and Brady Reusser all competed in throwing events at the Carius-Gregory Invitational at North Central. In the hammer, Hinkley and Hermsen took all six throws to improve their marks. Hinkley finished with a mark of 56.03m and Hermsen was right behind him with a distance of 55.64m. In discus, Hermsen took three throws but only two counted. Hersmen's best was a 54.51m throw, which was still the top mark of the meet. Reusser took all six opportunities after making finals, but only needed his first throw to hit a 43.02m distance. In the shot put, Hermsen took six throws but fouled his final five after his first toss of 15.85m.

On Friday, Peter Marra, Trenton Nickel, and Nathan Raatz competed at the Eagle Qualifier in La Crosse. Marra ran in the 400m hurdles race individually and finished in 55.27. Raatz and Nickel were in the 400m race, with Raatz finishing in 49.98 for a new PR, and Nickel finishing in 50.81.

Some of these Pioneers will try to increase their distances next week at potentially the Augustana Twilight Qualifier or at UW-La Crosse's Final Qualifier.
