ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Four Pioneers from the Carroll University men's outdoor track and field team competed at the Augustana Last Chance Twilight on Thursday afternoon in hopes of solidifying their chances of making the NCAA Division III Track and Field National Championships next week in New York.
Steven Hermsen and
Jimmy Hinkley threw to increase their distances, while
Peter Marra and
Trenton Nickel ran to lower their times.
Hermsen and Hinkley began the day in the hammer throw. Hermsen reached a distance of 56.52m on his first throw, while Hinkley finished with a distance of 51.61m. Hermsen then went to the discus, where he eclipsed 58 meters for the second time this season, setting a new season-best with a mark of 58.49m, 12 centimeters from a new personal best. Hermsen then finished the day in the shot put, putting up a 16.09m throw on his third attempt.
Marra ran in the 110m hurdles race but did not finish, and also competed in the 400m hurdle race, finishing with a time of 54.79. Nickel ran in the 400m dash and crossed the line in 50.02 seconds.
The NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Selections will be announced on Friday, May 19 via press release from NCAA.com. The Championships are from May 25-27, 2023 at Polisseni Track and Field Complex in Rochester, NY.
