Hinkley Smashes Hammer PR, Pioneers in Second after Day One of CCIW Championships

WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Carroll University men's outdoor track and field team hosted the opening day of the 2023 CCIW Track and Field Outdoor Championships at Dennis Punches Track and Field. Carroll sits in second place after day one, after cultivating 30 team points.
 
In the finals of the track events, Spencer Kirsteatter raced to a fifth-place finish in the 10,000-meter run, coming in with a time of 31.57.30. In prelims, Peter Marra won his heat and qualified for the 110m hurdle finals on Saturday with a 15.52 time. Marra will also compete in the 400m hurdles run on Saturday after winning his heat in prelims. Trenton Nickel finished in third after winning his heat, and qualified for the 400m finals with a 50.20. Kevin Lind also won his heat, finishing the 100m dash with a 10.92.
 
In field events, Jimmy Hinkley reclaimed his school record in the hammer throw with a 60.04-meter throw, to be crowed a conference champion. Hinkley was followed closely behind by Steven Hermsen who finished second with a new PR of 58.49 that held the school record for one round. In Javelin, Nickel turned in a 47.02m throw to finish third, and Noah Streveler completed a 43.59m toss.
