RIPON, Wis. - The Carroll University women's volleyball team finished undefeated with a 4-0 record and won the Red Hawks Invitational at Weiske Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
Carroll earned back-to-back sweeps over Wisconsin Lutheran College (25-18, 25-18, 25-19) and Maranatha Baptist University (25-12, 25-13, 26-24) to put an exclamation point on the statement-making road performance.
The feat took on added significance as it was the first tournament title under first-year Carroll head coach
Emma Mertler.
The Pioneers, who improved to 7-5 overall, swept three of four opponents in the two-day competition.
Katie Jensen and
Talia Johnson were selected to the all-tournament team.
vs. Wisconsin Lutheran
Johnson contributed nine kills, six digs and five blocks to help lead the Pioneers in the victory over Wisconsin Lutheran.
Jensen added nine kills to complete a strong 1-2 offensive attack for Carroll, which consistently generated double-digit kills in all three sets (highlighted by a team-best 13 kills and .281 hitting percentage in the decisive third set.)
Rebekah Andreae followed with six kills and
Ashley Konecki registered seven blocks for the Pioneers.
Maggie McGough had 12 digs with
Lindsey Diep adding four aces and 15 assists.
vs. Maranatha Baptist
Peyton Frost and
Megan Aalsma each recorded a team-high seven kills and
Kylie Wittnebel finished with six kills versus Maranatha Baptist.Â
Diep had a team-best four aces 20 assists for Carroll, which generated a team-best 17 kills in the pivotal, momentum-building second set.
Bella Alfaro,
Courtney Kirley and
Emmie Magnin each collected three blocks.
Cora Riffle added eight digs and 21 assists.
