Waukesha, Wis. -- The Carroll University women's soccer is now on a three-game winning streak heading into conference after a 3-1 victory over UW-Stevens Point. The Pioneers were led by senior Kenzie Blau scoring a career-high two goals on the night.
The regionally ranked Pioneers (5-3) took an impressive 20 shots on the night, with nine of them being on target. Carroll was able to take six corners, while holding 58 percent of the possession throughout the game. 72 percent of that time in the attacking half of the field. Senior, Caitlin Fitzsimons faced just five shots on the night. Grace Tumilty led the way for the group with nine shots, five of which were on target, and she was able to capitalize on one of them.
Carroll found themselves in a good position early as Tumilty was able to find the back of the net in the first 8' minutes of the game. This would set the tone early for the Pioneers as they fired off two more quick shots, that would be unsuccessful. The pressure was able to open opportunities for Carroll as Elli Pease served up a great ball from a corner kick. Blau was able to sneak into the box and find the back of the net to give the Pioneers a 2-0 lead. Carroll would continue to hold much of the possession, until the Pointers were able to capitalize on a corner kick of their own in the final minute of the half. As Carroll would take a 2-1 lead into the half.
Coming out of the half, the Pioneers would take three shots in the first five minutes of the half keeping UW-Stevens Point at bay. Carroll would eventually end up taking seven unanswered shots before finding them in a very familiar corner situation as the first half. Pease would play a great ball into the back side of the box to a spot only Blau could get her head on it. The almost scripted-looking play would give the Pioneers some breathing room as they took a 3-1 lead. Carroll would remain dominate the remainder of the game and walk away with a 3-1 victory over the Pointers.
Carroll will be opening conference play on the road at Millikin on Saturday, Sept. 23rd at 4:00 PM.
