WAUKESHA, Wis. - Carroll's volleyball team went toe-to-toe with North Central (Ill.) Wednesday night, ultimately falling in four sets in a back-and-forth battle, which featured 30 ties and 14 lead changes.
Carroll (8-7, 0-3 CCIW) led for the entire first half of the first set, before North Central (11-4, 2-1 CCIW) took their first lead of the match with the score 16-15, as they'd go on to win that set 25-19. The second set saw the Pioneers again lead late, but North Central took a 2-0 lead with a 25-20 set two victory. The third set saw 11 ties and eight lead changes, with the Pioneers coming back from a 17-14 deficit to win 30-28. The fourth set featured 10 more ties, before North Central put the game away with a 27-25 victory in that final frame.
Katie Jensen led the Pios with a season-high 19 kills, to go along with four blocks.
Ashley Konecki added 13 kills, while
Kaitlin Gawelski added 12.
Payton Depies paced the Pioneers in both assists (40) and digs (12), while Konecki and Rebekah Andrae tied Jensen for the team lead in blocks with four.
Taylor Raley added a match-high three service aces.
North Central was led by Abbi Barickman's 15 kills, 38 assists, and two service aces. Lauren Benson also chipped in with five blocks for the Cardinals, while Aidan Brown registered 18 digs.
Carroll will try to rebound on Friday when they'll travel to Dubuque, Iowa to take on University of Dubuque at 7 p.m.
