Grand Rapids, Mich. -- The Carroll University women's soccer travel to Grand Rapids, Mich. for the team's first away game of the year. The Pioneers were not able find rhythm in the game and 0-3 to the Calvin Knights. Grace Tumilty led the team with three shots, one of which was on target.
The Pioneers (2-1) took five shots on the knights, with just one being on target. Carroll was able to take six corners on the night, while holding 59 percent of the possession throughout the game. 65 percent of that time in the attacking half of the field. Senior, Caitlin Fitzsimons faced a season high 27 shots on the night. Fitzsimons was able to make 12 saves throughout the game but gave up three goals in the process.
Carroll found themselves in an early hole as Calvin scored in the 11' minute of the game. This would set the pace for the remainder of the half, as Calvin would maintain possession for most of the half. In the 30' minute, the Pios would allow the second goal of the half finding themselves down 0-2. Just ten minutes later the Knights would score a third unanswered goal going into the up 0-3.
Coming out of the half Carroll was looking back into the game. In the 67' minute Carroll would get it best chances at goal as Carmella Nowak and Tumilty were able to get off three consecutive shots. None could find the back of the net. This seemed to be the theme of the day for the Pioneers as they could never quite get up and go, and ultimately fell 0-3 to close out the game.
Carroll will be continuing its road trip as they head St. Louis, Mo. to take on Wash-U. The Pios look to get back in the win column on Friday, Sept. 8th at 3:00 PM.
