St. Louis, Mo. -- The Carroll University women's soccer couldn't overcome Washington University of St. Louis on the road today. The Pioneers fell 0-5 to the Bear's as the Carroll offense couldn't get going for a second straight game.
The Pioneers (2-2) took just two shots on the night, with one being on target. Carroll committed just two fouls that night. Senior, Caitlin Fitzsimons faced 20 shots on the night. Fitzsimons was able to make 10 saves throughout the game, making it her second double-digit saves count in row. Unfortunately, there were five shots that did find the back of the net.
Carroll found themselves on their own half of the field early in the game but held strong and did not give up an early goal. In the 25' minute of the night, Brielle Ingalsbee got a good look on goal, but couldn't covert as the Wash-U keeper made a save. The Pios found themselves defending for much of the half. Eventually, the Bear's were able to capitalize in the 43' minute of the half, as Carroll found themselves down 0-1 going into the half.
Using the momentum from the late goal in the first half, Wash-U would score two quick goals out of the half. Carroll would find themselves in a 0-3 hole in the 58' minute of the game. Carroll struggled to get their offense going, and felt it heavily has Wash-U scored their fourth goal of the night in the 71' minute. Just five minutes later the Pios would find themselves down 0-5. This would be the final score of the game.
Carroll looks to get back on track, as they are home once again on Sunday, September 10th. The Pioneers are looking forward to taking the opportunity to get back in the win column against Simpson College at 1:00 PM at Schneider Stadium.
