LAKE GENEVA, Wis. - Carroll's men's tennis team battled one of the top teams in the country Saturday night, falling to 25th-ranked UW-Whitewater by a score of 7-2. Both of the Pioneers' team points came in singles play, while the Warhawks won all three doubles matches by a combined score of 24-13.
In singles play,
Adrian Gomez was victorious at the top flight, defeating Reuben Giorgio 6-4, 7-6.
Daniel Ezcurra also earned a team point with a victory in number two singles, as he was up 5-4 in the first set before winning by retirement. That duo also teamed up for the Pioneers at the top flight in doubles play, where they are ranked eighth in the Central Region. They lost that match by a score of 8-4 to Reuben Giorgio and Luke VanDonslear, who is ranked 16th in Division-III as a singles player.
Carroll will now take next week off from competition, before getting back on the court on February 9 against Roosevelt University. That match will begin at 7 p.m. at Princeton Club in New Berlin, Wis.
