Carroll Falls To North Park In Final Minutes

CHICAGO, Ill. - In a game that featured six lead changes, North Park defeated Carroll 30-26 Saturday afternoon, scoring the winning touchdown with one minute remaining on the clock. North Park also held the advantage in total offense, out-gaining the Pios 367-274.

North Park (4-1, 3-1 CCIW) broke a scoreless tie on their first play from scrimmage, a 55-yard touchdown pass from Matt Eck to Jereme Ombogo. Carroll (2-3, 1-3 CCIW) added a Matt Swink 19-yard field goal on the ensuing possession, before taking their first lead of the day on the final play of the first quarter, which saw Tight End Reed Breckheimer score on a two-yard run. The two teams then traded 24-yard field goals, with North Park cutting the score to 13-10 at halftime.

The second half saw North Park grab the lead once more capping the opening possession of the third quarter with a 40-yard TD pass from Eck to Ombogo. Carroll would claw their way back into the lead mid-way through the period on an eight-yard touchdown pass from Caden Pendleton to Trevor Hancock. As the lead continued to change hands, North Park took the lead in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter on a six-yard run by Marcel Love. Swink then connected on a pair of field goals (34 and 25 yards) in the next six minutes to give the Pioneers a 26-24 lead with six and a half minutes to play. That left just enough time for North Park to work with, as they marched 75 yards on 14 plays in a little more than five minutes to score the winning touchdown on a three-yard Quadrell Hill.

Carroll finished with 127 rushing yards, led by Marcus Johnson, who recorded 114 yards on 16 carries (7.1 ypc) for his second consecutive 100-yard game. Santiago Rios led the Pioneers' receivers with two catches for 68 yards. Defensively, Carroll recorded one sack (Will Campbell) and one interception (Jagger Vine).

North Park was led by Eck's 267 yards and two touchdowns. Ombogo led all players with eight catches for 120 and two scores, while Love caught seven passes for 55 yards.

The Pioneers will try to regroup against Augustana (Ill.) next weekend. That game will begin Saturday at 1 p.m. from Schneider Stadium in Waukesha, Wis.
