WAUKESHA, Wis. - Carroll Volleyball (18-13, 1-6 CCIW) dropped their match to North Central (19-7, 5-3 CCIW) on Friday night in straight sets. The defeat extended their current losing skid to four games. There were 19 ties and eight lead changes in the match, ultimately ending in the Cardinals' favor by scores of 25-23, 25-17, 25-22.
Offensively, freshman Bronwyn Rowse and sophomore Kylie Wittnebel led the Pioneers with seven kills apiece. Payton Depies led the team with 17 assists. Freshman Ashley Miller also contributed an ace on the night. Defensively, Taylor Raley led the way with 16 digs and Wittnebel led with four total blocks.
SET 1 (25-23 North Central)
Both teams went back and forth throughout the first frame, with Carroll jumping out to an 10-5 lead before a 7-0 run from North Central gave the Cardinals the lead. Both teams found mini-runs throughout the frame, going neck and neck before the Cardinals closed it out. Rowse tallied four of her kills in the opening frame as the Pioneers posted an attack percentage of .067. Wittnebel's lone solo block came in set one, with one more assisted block.
SET 2 (25-17 North Central)
North Central forced a timeout after a 9-3 run. Carroll was unable to pull within five from there as North Central overpowered Carroll in the second frame, posting their highest attack percentage of the night at .176. Wittnebel spiked three of the team's 10 kills in the second set, while Depies tallied six assists.
SET 3 (25-22 North Central)
Carroll hung tough in the final frame, but the closed closed the match out with 14 kills and two service aces. Neither team forfeited more than three points in the opponents favor throughout the final frame. Freshman Lizzy Williams had her best set of the night with four kills and a .500 attack percentage. McGough had seven of her digs in the final frame and Depies and Miller both contributed five assists.
Carroll returns to action on Saturday, November 2nd for a non-conference match against UW-La Crosse. The team will celebrate senior day prior to the match and play will begin at noon inside Van Male Fieldhouse.
