Carroll Drops Season Opener to Lake Forest

WAUKESHA, Wis. – Carroll's men's lacrosse team showed promise in Saturday's 2024 season opener but couldn't overcome a first half deficit, losing to Lake Forest 16-5.

The Pioneers (0-1) recorded 19 shots during the game. Jake Gehl faced 48 shots throughout the game at Goal Keeper for the Pioneers, while also leading the team in ground balls with three. Spencer Lautner, Brady Conwell, and Brady Raczkowski caused two turnovers each to lead the Pioneers, along with Gehl.

Lake Forest began the game by taking a 5-0 lead midway through the first period. Carroll settled in offensively and scored two goals in the final six minutes of the quarter. Josh Kovach collected the Pioneers' first goal of the season, assisted by Luke Bridges. Nick White followed it up two minutes later with a goal off an assist from Ethan Phillips, giving the Pioneers momentum down 6-2 after one. Lake Forest controlled the second period, scoring five goals on 15 shots. The Pioneers were only able to get three shots off in the second, going into halftime with an 11-2 deficit. Carroll regained rhythm and momentum in the second half, scoring with less than a minute into the third quarter. Brady Conwell scored two unassisted goals in the third, as the Pios would make the score 14-4 after three periods. Carroll buckled down defensively, allowing only two goals in the fourth and scoring one of their own via Ethan Phillips, with Brady Mollson credited with the assist.

The Pioneers will be in action again Wednesday against Concordia (Wis.) in Mequon, Wis.
