Carroll Drops Road Opener to Concordia-Wisconsin

MEQUON, Wis. – The men's lacrosse team showed offensive improvements for the second game in a row but was overpowered by Concordia-Wisconsin's offensive attack, losing Wednesday afternoon by a score of 23-7.  

Carroll (0-2) fired off 39 shots, a season high, with 14 shots on goal. Jake Gehl faced 56 shots during the game, 40 of which were shots on goal, finishing with 17 saves. Jake Wright led the Pioneers with three ground balls and Spencer Lautner had four caused turnovers to pace the Carroll defense.  
 
CUW got off to a fast start, taking a 5-0 lead midway through the first period. Carroll got on the board in the last two minutes of the period, with Brady Conwell scoring an unassisted goal. The Falcons then scored four unanswered goals to open the second period. From there, the two teams traded two goals apiece in the final six-and-a-half minutes of the first half. Anthony Defilippis and Ethan Phillips both scored on unassisted goals, while CUW knocked in a goal at the horn to go into halftime with the Pios trailing 11-3.

Concordia controlled the third period, scoring eight goals on 17 shots and holding Carroll to one goal on 11 attempts in the quarter. Carroll battled in the fourth and final frame, holding Concordia to four goals, while scoring three of their own. Brady Conwell notched a goal on an assist from Jake Kopocis to open the fourth, Nick White connected on a goal at the eight-minute mark, assisted by Zachary Szuba, and Josh Kovach scored an unassisted goal in the closing minutes of the game.

The Pioneers return to action on Saturday, when they'll travel to Ashland, Wis. to take on Northland College at 3 p.m.
