Carroll men's lacrosse earned their first victory of the season Saturday afternoon, defeating Northland College 13-6. Carroll (1-2, 0-0 CCIW) outscored Northland in every period of the game and had 29 shots on goal out of 50 attempts.
Goalie Jake Gehl collected nine saves in the contest. Six different Pioneers scored and three more collected assists on the day. Sophomore Jake Wright and freshman Brady Conwell forced four ground balls apiece to lead the Carroll defense.
Carroll showed the opponent the six-hour journey was strictly business as the team jumped out to a 3-0 lead and had complete control from the first faceoff. Nick White scored all three goals in the first, all three unassisted. In the second, the Pioneers built on their lead, stacking two more goals from Luke Bridges and Brady Conwell, assisted by Anthony Defilippis to go up 5-0. Northland would get a late goal in the second to get on the scoreboard but Carroll maintained a commanding 5-1 lead going into halftime.
Brady Molleson and Brady Conwell tallied goals 20 seconds apart to continue the offensive dominance by the Pioneers. Nick White notched another assist on the Conwell goal and the Pios were rolling, up 7-1. Luke Bridges and Nick White scored unassisted goals in the third as well. Northland showed a little fight as they ended the period with three goals. Carroll secured the victory by outscoring Northland 5-2 on 14 shots in the final frame, and the Pioneers left Ashland with their first notch on the win column this season.
Carroll returns to action looking to build on the current momentum on Wednesday, February 28 as they host Marian University at 7:30 p.m.
