Carroll Women Turn In Five First-Place Finishes As Pioneers Finish Second At Wisconsin Private College Championships

INDIVIDUAL RESULTS

KENOSHA, Wis. -
Carroll's women's swim team excelled at the annual Wisconsin Private College Championships over the weekend, finishing second out of six teams, which is a one-spot improvement on last year's WPCC competition. The Pioneers scored 162 team points, which was nearly double last year's total, while finishing 51 points ahead of the third-place team.

Carroll took home five first-place finishes at the meet, led by Josie Peterson, who accounted for three of those. Peterson won the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.08, while also winning the 200 freestyle and 100 freestyle with times of 1:59.14 and 54.41, respectively. The Pios' other two first-place finishes came from Kelly Gordon, who won the 200 butterfly and 400 IM with times of 2:24.34 and 5:04.28, respectively.

Peterson also swam on two relays that finished second on the day. In the 400 freesyle, Peterson teamed up with Alexandra Ostopowicz, Morgan Toupal, and Nicole Johnson to swim a time of 3:52.07, which was just one second shy of the winning time. In the 200 freestyle, Kaya Martin joined Peterson, Ostopowicz, and Johnson to swim a time of 1:44.05, which was less than three seconds behind the top time.

Martin added a second-place finish in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:05.64, which was three seconds off the pace of the winning time, while Toupal finished fourth in that even with a time of 1:06.20. Toupal also finished second in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:24.14, while Chopper Ceshker added a third-place finish in the 1650 freestyle (19:23.54). Also earning a top-four individual finish was Gordon in the 500 freestyle (5:39.57) and Kailee Sitter in the 200 IM (2:27.16). Sitter also swam a leg on Carroll's third-place 400 medley relay, which swam a time of 4:29.99, along with Toupal, Johnson, and Ostopowicz.

The Pioneers will now prepare for the 2024 CCIW Championships, which will take place from February 21-24. Day one of that meet will be held at Koenitzer Aquatic Center in Kenosha, while the remainder of the meet will be held at Pleasant Prairie RecPlex in Pleasant Prairie, Wis.
