Carroll came into the game with an offensive focus as they went shot-for-shot with LaGrange for much of the game. The difference in the first period was 10 goals going through for Panthers and just one goal being scored by the Pioneers, at the hands of Ethan Phillips three minutes into the contest. Carroll was blanked for the remainder of the opening period, finding themselves in 10-1 hole after one.
