CLERMONT, Fla. - Carroll's softball team continued to hear up in the Florida sun on Monday afternoon, extending their winning streak to three games. The Pioneers won both of Monday's contests on what was their third day of the week-long Spring Trip, defeating SUNY-Geneseo, 3-2, and Ithaca College, 3-1.
Carroll (5-5) never trailed in either game, jumping on SUNY-Geneseo (1-4) early with a run in the bottom of the first when
Abby Curtis crossed the plate on a groundout. Geneseio would tie the score with a solo home run in the second, but
Kiana Johnson singled home Curtis to take the lead once more in the third.
One out away from victory, the Pioneers allowed Geneseo to tie the score at two on a fielding error, but they would redeem themselves in the bottom of the seventh, as Johnson scored the game-winning run on a one-out Geneseo error.
Three of Carroll's nine hits came off the bat of Curtis atop the order.
Sophia Schmidt added a pair of base knocks.
Riley Pavelka (1-1) earned her first victory of the season, allowing just one earned run on six hits, while striking out two in a seven-inning complete game.
The Pios kept their momentum in the nightcap, using a three-run third inning against Ithaca (3-3) to coast to a 3-1 victory, despite recording just two hits.
Carroll took the lead when
Antoinette Napoli scored on a bases loaded passed ball. Johnson then followed that with a two-run single to give the Pioneers a 3-0 advantage.
Ithaca's lone run would come on a double in the bottom of the sixth. They would load the bases with two out in the bottom of the seventh, but a flyout to center would end the game to send Carroll to victory.
Curtis recorded the Pios' only other hit, while also recording one of the team's two stolen bases.
Andrea Kuhne (4-1) continued to be dominant in the circle, allowing one run on six this in 5.2 innings of work, while striking out three.
Alyssa Cebreros tossed 1.1 scoreless innings of relief, allowing just one hit to record her first save of the season.
