PENSACOLA, Fla.. - The Carroll baseball team lost their first game of the Studer's Blue Wahoo Challenge Tuesday night, falling to #25 Wisconsin-Whitewater by a score of 10-2.
Mason Hege continued his hot season at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double and scoring one run. First baseman Thomas Ward also collected two hits for Carroll, including the lone Pioneer RBI on the evening.
The Warhawks jumped to an early 6-0 lead after the first inning and built the lead to 9-0 after six, with the Pios only tallying one hit through the first six innings. Carroll found some momentum in the top of the seventh, plating two runners and cutting into the deficit. UW-Whitewater stifled any comeback attempts from there, allowing three hits for the remainder of the game.
The Pioneers utilized three pitchers in the defeat including starter Noah Meyer, Nate Sternig, and Braden Lewis. The group combined for five strikeouts, giving up nine hits, while allowing nine earned runs and walking five batters. Meyer also collected five strikeouts in the game, showing good control on the mound.
Carroll has another quick turnaround as they face University of Wisconsin-Platteville in Pensacola, Fla. At Noon CST tomorrow for game two of the Studer's Blue Wahoo Challenge.
