HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - The Carroll University men's tennis team completed its Spring Break trip with a hard-fought 6-3 loss to East Texas Baptist University in a non-conference dual meet at Hilton Head Resort on Wednesday morning.
It was the third and final non-conference dual of the confidence-building road trip for Carroll, which entered the day riding the momentum of four consecutive victories (including back-to-back 5-4 road wins versus Greenville University and The College of Wooster) but dropped to 8-3 overall.
The No. 1 doubles tandem of
Adrian Gomez and
Daniel Ezcurra won 8-3 to help lead the Pioneers. The No. 3 duo of
David Eman and
Felix Persson followed with an 8-4 victory.
Gomez earned Carroll's other point at No. 2 singles as the result of his opponent's retirement in the second set.
Ezcurra lost in three sets in an intriguing match at No. 1 singles, falling to East Texas Baptist's Sam Black 4-6, 7-6, 1-0.
Andrew LaBelle came up short in a tough battle at No. 3 singles, losing to Zachary Couch 6-7, 6-1, 1-0.
Carroll is scheduled to travel to North Central College for a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) dual Saturday, April 6.
