Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Pios Record First Shutout of the Season In Convincing Win

WAUKESHA, Wis. - Carroll's women's lacrosse team scored early and often Sunday afternoon, en route to a 15-0 victory over Marian (Wis.). The Pioneers also out-shot the Sabres by a 26-8 margin, while winning the ground ball battle, 46-33.

Grace Brockman got the scoring started just two minutes into the game, thanks to an assist from Abby Stas. Elaina Phaneuf then scored a goal, sandwiched between two Elizabeth Wang goals, to give Carroll a 4-0 advantage mid-way through the opening period. Another Brockman goal, followed by a score by Rebecca Hallman and two by Samantha Hurd gave the Pioneers an eight-goal lead after one quarter of play. Wang, Brockman, and Stas each scored a goal in the second quarter, extending that lead to 11-0 at the half.

The Pios coasted in the second half, scoring third quarter goals from Phaneuf and Wang, while adding two more goals in the fourth by Lauren Fricke and Wang.

Wang, who leads the CCIW in goals, finished with five goals on the day. Brockman also recorded a hat trick with three scores. Hurd and Phaneuf each added two goals. Goal Keepers Devon Duym and Sydney Everett combined for the shutout, with each player recording two saves.

The Pioneers have now won three consecutive games. They will go for four in a row on Friday when they'll travel to UW-River Falls. That game will begin at 5 p.m. in River Falls, Wis.
