Pioneers Shine In Non-conference Road Victory

Brockman scores two goals in final five minutes as Carroll defeats UW-River Falls; Team remains unbeaten on the road and improves to 8-1 overall

RIVER FALLS, Wis. - Grace Brockman and Elizabeth Wang each scored four goals as the Carroll University women's lacrosse team defeated the University of Wisconsin-River Falls 11-9 in a hard-fought non-conference game at Ramer Field on Friday night.
It was the fourth consecutive victory for Carroll, which improved to 8-1 overall.
The Pioneers remain unbeaten on the road this season with a 5-0 record and have combined to outscore their last four opponents by a statement-making 56-29 margin.

Tied 9-9 in the fourth quarter, Carroll answered the pressure-packed challenge by scoring two unanswered goals over the course of the final five minutes, both coming from Brockman off assists by Samantha Hurd including what became the winning shot with 4 minutes, 41 seconds remaining.

Elaina Phaneuf, Abby Stas and Lauren Fricke each added a goal for the Pioneers, who erased a one-goal deficit by scoring six times in the third quarter to claim a 9-6 lead.
Stas also contributed six ground balls, won two draw controls and converted on a free-position shot in the contest.
Hurd contributed a team-high four assists for the Pioneers, who were successful on all four free-position shot opportunities.
Ariana Cullam had six ground balls and Grace Tumilty won four draw controls. Wang converted two free-position shots and added an assist.
Sydney Everett and Devon Duym each played a half at goalkeeper for Carroll, combining for 13 saves. Duym registered nine saves in the second half to help preserve a victory.

Grace Hannula scored three goals for UW-River Falls, which maintained a 32-24 shot advantage but dropped to 4-3 overall.

Carroll is scheduled to travel to Concordia University Wisconsin for a non-conference game Tuesday, April 2 at 4 p.m.
