Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Pios' Six-Game Win Streak Comes To An End

WAUKESHA, Wis. - Carroll's women's lacrosse team had their season-high six-game winning streak snapped Wednesday night, as they suffered just their second setback of the season in a 19-4 defeat to University of Chicago, who entered the contest ranked 21st in Division-III. The Maroons also out-shot the Pioneers by a 32-18 margin on the day.

Chicago (6-4, 2-0 CCIW) scored early and often in this one, finding the net just one minute into the game on a goal by Jill Hooey, which was the Maroons' first of six first-period goals. They would also score the first goal of the second quarter, before Carroll (10-2, 0-1 CCIW) got on the board with a goal by Elizabeth Wang. After a pair of Chicago goals, Wang scored again to bring Carroll's deficit to 9-2 with 10 minutes remaining in the half. The Maroons then scored the final four goals of the half to take a 13-2 lead into intermission.

After four Chicago goals opened the second half, Elaina Phaneuf scored for Carroll, making the score 17-3 mid-way through the fourth and final quarter. Wang then capped the Pios' scoring with her third goal of the night to complete the hat trick and give the freshman 50 goals on the season. That currently ranks ninth in program history for a single season and is just 15 shy of the school's single season record.

The Pioneers will now try to get back on the winning track, as they'll travel to Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday. That game will begin at Noon in Bloomington, Ill.
