Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Carroll Narrowly Loses At Illinois Wesleyan

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Carroll's women's lacrosse team dropped their second consecutive game Saturday afternoon, falling to Illinois Wesleyan 11-9, which marks just the first time this season that the Pios have suffered consecutive setbacks. The game was evenly played throughout, with Carroll holding a 27-20 shot advantage, but three fourth quarter Titan goals proved to be the difference.

The Pioneers (10-3, 0-2 CCIW) opened the scoring just a minute and a half into the contest on an unassisted goal by Grace Brockman. After Illinois Wesleyan (6-7, 1-2 CCIW) tied the game less than a minute later, Carroll grabbed the advantage once more with goals by Elizebeth Wang and Rebecca Hallman. IWU then scored two goals of their own to tie the score once more. The two teams traded goals again at the end of the quarter, with Lauren Fricke finding the net for the Pios, as the two teams entered the second period tied at four. Illinois Wesleyan took their first lead of the game in the opening minute of that period on a Devon Hanson goal. Wang's second goal of the game would tie the score for the Pios, but Hanson would score again less than one minute later to put the Titans in front. Wang and Hallman each scored a goal later in the half, giving Carroll a 7-6 halftime lead in this see-saw battle.

Hanson then tied the game at seven in the opening minute of the third quarter, which saw the Titans take the lead with another goal three minutes later. Hallman then tied the game, before Wang's fourth score of the contest gave the Pioneers a 9-8 lead in the final seconds of the quarter. Entering the fourth quarter trailing 9-8, Hanson continued her outstanding day, scoring all three of her team's goals in the final quarter, sending IWU to victory.

With Wang's four goals, the freshman now has 54 on the season, which is just 11 shy of the single season school record. Hallman also added a hat trick of three goals, while Samantha Hurd recorded the team's only assist on the day. Devon Duym played all 60 minutes for the Pios at Goal Keeper, recording seven saves.

Hanson finished with six goals, while Anelise DiGiovanni scored twice for the Titans. Lizzie Rymarcsuk made 11 saves for IWU, en route to the victory.

Carroll will try to get back on the winning track on Wednesday when they'll travel to Augustana (IL). That game will begin at 6 p.m. in Rock Island, Ill.
