ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - Carroll's women's lacrosse team snapped a two-game losing skid in convincing fashion Wednesday night, defeating Augustana (IL) 22-1, falling just one goal short of the program's single game record. The Pioneers also held a 36-10 shot advantage, with 30 of their shots coming on goal, while also forcing 26 Augustana turnovers.
Carroll (11-3, 1-2Â CCIW) scored early and often in this contest, getting out to an 11-0 lead after one quarter of play. Laurent Fricke started the scoring just two minutes into the game with her 14th goal of the season.
Elaina Phaneuf then scored a pair of goals, followed by goals from Hallman, Fricke, and
Elizabeth Wang. Hallman and Fricke would each score two more goals in the period, while
Grace Brockman also found the back of the net. Wang would score the first goal of the second quarter before Augustana's lone goal mid-way through the period. Fricke added another goal just before halftime to give Carroll a 13-1 lead at the break.
Carroll would pick up where they left off in the second half, with Wang scoring two more goals in the first five minutes.
Samantha Hurd then got into the action with her 16th goal of the season, followed by two more Wang goals, giving the freshman 60 goals on the season, which is just five shy of the program's single season record. Hurd added her second goal of the game to start the fourth period, while
Olivia Brome also scored, and
Carley Hall chipped in with a pair of scores.
Wang finished the game with six goals, which is three shy of the program's single game record. Fricke added five goals, while Hallman also recorded a hat trick with three scores. Phaneuf, Hurd, and Hall each finished with two goals.
Sydney Everett played all 60 minutes at Goal Keeper for the Pios, making four saves.
Augustana's only goal came from Elena Bechard. Lanie Cecala and Olivia Schroeder combined for eight saves at Goal Keeper for the Vikings.
The Pioneers will try to use this momentum on Saturday when they'll travel to Elmhurst University. That game will begin at 1 p.m. in Elmhurst, Ill.
