ELMHURST, Ill. - For the second consecutive game, Carroll's offensive attack was firing on all cylinders, defeating Elmhurst 22-1 on Saturday afternoon. That marks the Pioneers' second consecutive game in which they won by an identical 22-1 score, which is tied for the second-most single game goals in program history, just one shy of the school record. That also marks the second-highest goal total in consecutive games in program history.
The Pioneers were led by a game-high five goals apiece by
Elizabeth Wang and
Samantha Hurd. That gives Wang 65 goals on the season, which ties the freshman for the program's single season record. Wang has recorded a hat trick in 14 of the team's 15 games on the year.
Hurd got the scoring started just 35 seconds into the game, while Wang followed suit with her first goal of the contest three minutes later. Wang would add another goal later in the period, while
Rebecca Hallman also scored two goals in the opening quarter, which saw the Pioneers score eight goals, with
Elaina Phaneuf,
Grace Brockman, and
Olivia Brome also getting into the scoring action. Hurd then scored the first two goals of the second quarter, followed by
Carley Hall, Wang, and Hallman each netting a goal to give Carroll a 13-0 lead at intermission.
The Pios continued to pour it on in the second half, which saw Wang score on an assist from Hallman, before Emlhurst would score their first goal of the game three minutes later. Brockman, Hallman, and
Grace Tumilty would also score in the quarter, giving Carroll a 17-1 lead after three quarters, before adding five more goals in the final frame.
In addition to Hurd and Wang, Hallman and Brockman also each recorded a hat trick with four and three goals, respectively. That duo also accounted for a game-high three assists apiece.
Devon Duym played all 60 minutes at Goal Keeper for the Pios, making one save on the day.
Elmhurst's lone goal came from Gracie Eastman. Blue Jay Goal Keepers Corinna Salmon and Savannah Sannes each played a half, combining for 10 saves.
The Pioneers will hope to continue their momentum on Wednesday when they'll return home to battle in-state conference rival Carthage College. That game will begin at 6 p.m. at Schneider Stadium in Waukesha, Wis.
