MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Carroll baseball extended its winning streak to four games Sunday afternoon, defeating Wisconsin Lutheran 8-6 in a tightly contested battle. Carroll (12-14, 6-4 CCIW) collected 11 hits on the day, highlighted by a Nick Angus 3-run home run in the first inning. The victory was Carroll's fourth straight win in three days time, and seventh victory in their last eight games.
Lane Scott went 3-for-5 with two singles and a double while Leo Matuga contributed two singles in a 2-for-4 outing at the plate. Angus led the Pioneers with 3 RBI, all coming on his first inning shot to right field.
Carroll got off to a hot start, going up 5-0 in the first 2 ½ innings. The Warriors responded by scoring five unanswered runs in the second and third, tying the game 5-5 through three complete innings.
The two teams were at a stalemate until the eighth inning. Dalen Lamberson singled to drive in Leo Matuga to break the tie. Lamberson was rewarded by a RBI single from Lamberson and Scott was rewarded with a run of his own, being driven in by Preston Sanders. WLC scored one run in the bottom of the ninth, but Chayce Schultz came in to secure his first save of the season.
The Pioneers utilized six pitchers including starter Daniel Kalinowski, Brody Meyer, Jorge Rodriguez, Joey Rivera, Andy Buskohl, and Chayce Schultz. The group collected five strikeouts, giving up six earned runs on nine hits. Rodriguez earned the victory in relief, going 3.1 innings and only allowing one hit.
Carroll returns to action Wednesday, April 17 for a CCIW matchup with North Central College. First pitch from Frame Park will be at 5 p.m.
