WAUKESHA, Wis – Carroll baseball had their four game winning streak snapped on Wednesday evening, losing to North Central 13-4 on a gusty night in Frame Park. The Pios had nine hits and committed four errors on the day.
Dalen Lamberson and Leo Matuga both went 2-for-4 with two singles to lead the Pios and Nick Angus tallied the lone extra base hit, a pinch hit double in the bottom of the seventh inning.
North Central came out of the gates white hot, jumping to a 4-0 lead after one inning. Carroll showed resilience once again this season, keeping within striking distance scoring two runs over the next two innings to go down 4-2. North Central put up crooked numbers in three more innings throughout the game, staving off any Carroll comebacks with stout defense keeping damage to a minimum. The Cardinals made their final statement scoring three in the top of the ninth and retiring the side in three-up-three-down fashion to close the game with 13-4 loss for the Pios.
The Pioneers threw seven pitchers including starter Braden Lewis, Noah Meyer, Carson Gratz, Joey Rivera, Noah Hoffman, Owen Ripley, and Andy Buskohl. The group collected six strikeouts, giving up 12 earned runs on nine hits. Lewis suffered his second loss of the season, pitching 3.2 innings, allowing seven hits and giving up six earned runs.
Carroll returns to action Saturday, April 20 for game one of a three-game home series against CCIW foe Millikin University. Game one and two will be at Frame Park on Saturday, beginning at noon.
