ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Carroll University men's tennis team defeated Augustana College 5-4 in a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin dual meet Sunday.
It was the second conference dual victory of the season for Carroll, which snapped a string of back-to-back losses to improve to 2-2 in the league standings and 10-5 overall.
The dual remained tied 4-4 but the Pioneers responded to the challenge as
Andrew LaBelle earned the decisive point with a pressure-packed three-set victory at No. 3 singles outlasting Augustana's Gabriel Luna 6-3, 4-6, 7-5.
Daniel Ezcurra contributed a three-set victory at No. 2 singles for Carroll, defeating David Larraga 6-2, 0-6, 6-2.
Ezcurra combined with
Adrian Gomez for a momentum-building victory at No. 1 doubles (8-3) The No. 2 duo of
Andrew LaBelle and
Felix Persson (8-1) and the No. 3 tandem of
Ryan LaBelle and
David Eman (8-7) each added a critical victory.
The Pioneers are scheduled to host Illinois Wesleyan in a CCIW dual at the Jean Kilgour-Trailblazer Tennis Complex on April 19 at 3:30 p.m.
