CHICAGO, Ill. - Carroll's softball team split a pair of games at North Park on Saturday, winning the first 2-1, before dropping the nightcap 10-0 in six innings.
In the day's first game, Carroll (7-15, 1-3 CCIW) wasted no time, scoring a run in the top of the first on an RBI single by
Sydney Raddeman, which allowed
Kaitlyn Reed to score from third base. North Park (7-15, 3-3 CCIW) would tie the game at one on a run-scoring groundout in the fifth, but Carroll answered one inning later when
Madison Strampe drove in a run on a sacrifice bunt, which proved to be the difference in the game.
The Pioneers' eight hits came from just four players, led by Raddeman's 3-for-3 performance at the dish. Reed and
Kiana Johnson each added two base knocks, while
Abby Curtis accounted for the other.
Andrea Kuhne (5-4) earned the win in the circle, allowing one run on four hits and striking out four in the complete game.
The day's second game was a different story, despite each team recording six hits in the contest. North Park's 10 runs came in just two innings, plating two in the fourth, before ending the game with eight more runs in the top of the sixth.
Carroll was led by two hits apiece from Johnson and
Reagan Goluch, while
Antoinette Napoli recorded her first triple of the season.
The Pios will be in action again on Sunday, as they'll host a doubleheader against Carthage College. That twinbill will begin at Noon at Kilgour Field in Waukesha, Wis.
