BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Carroll's softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader Saturday at Illinois Wesleyan. The Pios fell 8-0 in game one, before also losing the second game 18-0.
Illinois Wesleyan (24-9, 14-3 CCIW) scored their first run of the day on an RBI single in the bottom of the first, before adding one run apiece in the third and fourth innings. The Titans then ended the game with a five-run fifth.
Carroll (11-25, 4-10 CCIW) finished the game with five hits, led by a 2-for-2 effort at the plate by
Bridget Rath. The Pios' other hits came from
Abby Curtis,
Sydney Raddeman, and
Madison Palasz.
The day's second game saw Illinois Wesleyan jump on the board early with six runs in the top of the first. After adding three more runs in the second, the Titans took a 10-0 lead in the third on an RBI single to right. They would add eight more runs in the fourth to cap the scoring, which included a three-run homer.
Carroll finished the game with two hits, coming off the bat of Curtis and
Reagan Goluch.
Zoe Hilton pitched well in relief, firing two scoreless innings, while yielding just one hit.
The Pioneers will bring their 2024 season to a close on Sunday when they'll travel to Millikin University. That doubleheader will begin at Noon in Decatur, Ill.
