WAUKESHA, Wis. - Carroll's women's lacrosse team defeated North Central (IL) 18-5 Saturday afternoon, behind a nine-goal effort by Sophomore
Rebecca Hallman, which ties a single game school record. The win clinches the fourth seed in Wednesday's College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Tournament.
The Pioneers (14-3, 4-2 CCIW) started the game strong with two Laren Fricke goals and another by
Elizabeth Wang in the first six minutes of the contest. North Central then made a game of it with goals by Abby Mackenzie and Rachel Lawrence, but Carroll would get those two goals back, courtesy of Hallman and
Samantha Hurd, giving the Pios a 5-2 advantage after one quarter of play. Carroll would separate themselves in the second period, which saw them outscore the Cardinals 8-0. Four of those second quarter goals came from Hallman, while Wang added two more, while Fricke and
Elaina Phaneuf also each scored a goal.
Hallman added her sixth goal of the day in the third quarter, before adding three more, including the one that tied the record, with just over two minutes remaining. Hallman also added one assist. Wang also finished with a hat trick, scoring four goals to put her over the 70-goal mark for the season. She also broke yet another single season school record with her 81st point of the year. Fricke also recorded a hat trick with three goals, to go along with one assist.
Grace Brockman led all players with three assists. Carroll out-shot North Central 35-11, while also forcing 23 Cardinal turnovers.
Sydney Everett and
Devon Duym each played a half at Goal Keeper for the Pios, combining for five saves. North Central's Cassidy Anderson played the entire game between the pipes for the Cardinals, saving six shots.
The Pioneers will now get ready to face number one seed University of Chicago in the CCIW Tournament semifinals Wednesday at 6 p.m. That game will be played in Chicago, with the winner playing the winner of the other semifinal on Saturday, May 4 at the highest remaining seed.
