Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Pioneers Hold On For Win At UW-La Crosse

LA CROSSE, Wis. - For the third time in the last four seasons, the Carroll University women's lacrosse team has recorded double-digit victories. The Pioneers accomplished that feat Saturday with an 11-10 victory at UW-LaCrosse to improve the Pios' season record to 10-1, while also marking their sixth consecutive victory.

Carroll got the scoring started four and a half minutes into the opening period when Abby Stas scored on an Emma Kimps assist. UW-LaCrosse matched that goal two minutes later, but Rebecca Hallman and Elizabeth Wang each scored unassisted later in the period to give the Pios a 3-1 lead after one. UW-LaCrosse would cut that lead in half in the opening minutes of the second quarter and the two teams then traded goals, before Kimps added a goal with just under five minutes remaining in the half to give the Pios a 5-3 halftime advantage.

Carroll opened the second half by scoring three consecutive goals, with two coming from Hallman and the other from Elaina Phaneuf. UW-LaCrosse then answered with three consecutive goals of their own, cutting Carroll's lead to 8-6 in the opening minutes of the fourth and final period. The two teams then traded goals once more, before Wang and Samantha Hurd each added a goal. UW-LaCrosse made things interesting with three goals in a two minute span, cutting Carroll's lead to a single goal, but the Pio defense held on for the victory.

Carroll was led by Hallman's hat trick of three goals, in addition to one assist. Wang and Hurd each finished with a pair of goals. Devon Duym played the entire game at Goal Keeper for the Pioneers, recording four saves on the day.

Megan Feeney led UW-La Crosse with four goals, while Megan Maloney and Grace Willmott each scored twice for the Eagles. Abigale Furlano played all 60 minutes at Goal Keeper, making 11 saves for UW-L.

The Pioneers will try to keep things rolling on Wednesday when they'll open their conference season against University of Chicago. That game will begin at 6 p.m. at Schneider Stadium in Waukesha, Wis.
