The College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced its annual Baseball Academic All-District team Tuesday morning, with Carroll landing two players on the list. Seniors
Casey Mir and
Brett Buzzelli each earned the distinction after helping the Pioneers to a 17 win season.
Mir, who is a native of Menomonee Falls, Wis is the school's record-holder for hit by pitches. Mir has a career batting average of .304 with 131 career game appearances. This season, he boasted a .471 on-base percentage while collecting 31 hits in the 2024 campaign. Mir is currently in the Doctor's of Physical Therapy program at Carroll University and received his bachelor's degree in 2023.
Buzzelli is a Finance major from Homer Glen, IL. He appeared in 11 games this season, making 9 starts. Buzzelli had 40 strikeouts to just 13 walks in the 2024 season, and won CCIW Pitcher of the Week once. He holds a career 3.51 ERA and is Carroll's all-time leader in innings pitched and strikeouts. Buzzelli graduated in May with a degree in Finance.
The 2023-24 Academic All-District® Baseball teams, selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC), recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes baseball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Academic All-District® honorees were considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. Student-athletes selected as CSC Academic All-America® finalists will advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced July 2, 2024.
