NEW ORLEANS – All-Academic Athletes for the 2024 NCAA Division III Men's Track & Field seasons were announced this week by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), with Carroll grad students Jimmy Hinkley and Steven Hermsen each earning a spot on the team.

The criteria of being named an NCAA Division-III All-Academic Student-Athlete includes compiling a minimum cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale through the most recently completed grading period. Graduate students must take all undergraduate plus graduate coursework into account. In order to be selected, an individual must have also finished the season among the top 50 individuals in an event and/or participated at the Indoor or Outdoor National Championships.

A Business Administration major from Grayslake, Ill., Hinkley earned his first career All-American performance during the outdoor season in the Hammer Throw, which capped the third and final day of the 2024 NCAA Division-III Championships. Hinkley also earned a second All-Region selection of his career in that same event. A three-time National qualifier in the Hammer, Hinkley entered Nationals ranked ninth in the country.

Originally from De Pere, Wis., Hermsen is a Physical Therapy major and is also a four-time CSC Academic All-America performer. He finished off his historic collegiate career this season by finishing as the National runner-up in the Outdoor Discus. A three-time National Champion in that event, it marked Hermsen's seventh career First Team All-American performance. An 11-time National qualifier, Hermsen also earned Second-Team All-America honors in this year's Outdoor Shot Put, finishing 12th in that event at Nationals. He was named All-Region in both events this year, giving him six All-Region honors in his storied career.
