Carroll Concludes Strong Opening Weekend

Carroll (3-1) concluded the Illinois College Invitational with two victories on Saturday, defeating Webster University in straight sets and UW-La Crosse 3-2. The 3-1 record ties the best 4-game start since 2018 for Carroll. The Pioneers were 3-1 in 2022 and 2018 as well. 

MATCH 1 

Carroll (2-1) defeated Webster (2-1) by scores of 25-23, 25-20, 25-21. Rebekah Andreae and Bronwyn Rowse led the Pioneers with eight kills each, with the duo having a .429 and .238 kill percentage, respectively. Ashley Miller had 18 assists in the match and six Pios had a service ace on the offensive end. Defensively, Maggie McGough had 10 digs and Kylie Wittnebel stuffed five at the net, a season high. 

MATCH 2 

The Pioneers (3-1) defeated the Eagles in five alternating sets by scores of 25-21, 20-25, 25-22, 26-28, 15-9. In the longest match of the weekend, Carroll scored a total of 79 points, a season high. In a match that saw 31 ties and 16 lead changes. The Pioneers also set season highs in kills, blocks, assists, and digs.  

On the offensive, the trio of Andreae, Rowse, and Wittnebel all had 11 kills to lead the Pios, all of which posted a team season-high in the category. Peyton Depies assisted on 27 kills, another season high for the Pioneers. Continuing the theme of season highs, freshman Samantha Miserendino had 17 digs and freshman Carly Hicklin posted 4 service aces.
