DUBUQUE, IA – Carroll Volleyball split their two matches in the Loras College Triangular on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Knox College in straight sets and losing to host Loras College in four sets. Carroll (4-2) had a streak snapped of five consecutive sets won, spanning across three matches before dropping the second set to Loras (3-1).
MATCH 1
Carroll won in dominant fashion, scoring 59 points to Knox's (0-4) 27. The Pioneers won by scores of 25-11, 25-21, 25-15. Freshman Carly Hicklin led the Pios with nine kills. Maggie McGough had four service aces, a season high, while the freshmen duo of Ashley Miller and Emily Jones both contributed 16 assists. Senior Rebekah Andreae continued her hot streak, hitting at a .462 hitting percentage. On the defensive side of the net, Kylie Wittnebel had three stuffs at the net to lead the Pioneers Miller added six digs to round out a solid game on both sides.
MATCH 2
Carroll found themselves on the losing end of the scoreboard for just the second time this season, conceding to Loras in the fourth set by scores of 25-17, 21-25, 22-25, 12-25. Carroll struggled on the attack in the second match, posting a .088 kill percentage, a season-low. Senior Grace Perret landed 11 kills, her season-high. Peyton Depies assisted 18 times and McGough recorded two service aces in the match, but the team struggled with errors, as the team set a season-high with 30 errors. Defensively, Andreae had six total blocks, her season-high. Taylor Raley had 14 digs in the match to pace the Pios who had a strong showing overall on the defensive end.
Carroll returns to action on Friday, September 6 as they travel to Appleton, Wis. To participate in the St. Norbert Chick-Fil-A Invitational, a two day event.
