Carroll 2-0 in Day One of Chick-Fil-A Invitational

DE PERE, WI - Carroll Volleyball (6-2) opened the St. Norbert College Chick-Fil-A Invitational with two victories, defeating Northland College (0-4) in straight sets, and ousting Central College (IA) (2-3) in the closest match of the year. Central took the Pios to five sets and the largest game victory was six points. 

MATCH 1 

Carroll dominated the opening match, beating Northland in every statistical category. The Pioneers won by scores of 25-18, 25-14, 25-9. Carroll scored 55 points in the match, led by sophomore Kylie Wittnebel who contributed 9.5 points. Carroll posted a season-high in kill percentage. Wittnebel led the team in kills, collecting nine, while Rebekah Andreae and Bronwyn Rowse contributed six kills each to round out the Pioneers attack at the net. Ashley Miller led the team with 16 assists, while freshman Samantha Miserendino had seven service aces, a new high in her young career. 

Defensively, Taylor Raley had nine digs to pace the Pios, with Miserendino and Maggie McGough contributing eight more each. Four different Pioneers registered a block in the match. 

MATCH 2 

Carroll defeated the Dutch of Central (IA) by scores of 25-23, 21-25, 25-22, 19-25, 15-11. Despite the result, Carroll was outscored by Central 76-61 and Central held the advantage in kills, assists, and digs. The two teams tied in blocks and aces Raley had 17 kills, a career high and the most in a match this season for a Pioneer. Miserendino contributed three kills and Payton Depies had 18 assists.  

Raley continued her stellar match on the defensive side, leading Carroll with 18 digs, tying her season high (8/30 vs Adrian). Wittnebel tallied five more stuffs at the net to lead the team. 

Carroll takes the court again on Saturday with arguably two of their toughest matches to-date to close out the St. Norbert Chick-Fil-A Invitational. The first against UW-Stout at 12:30pm followed by tournament host St. Norbert College at 3pm
