McGough Tallies 1,000th Career Dig, Pioneers Defeat Falcons

MEQUON, Wis. - Carroll Volleyball ended a weekend undefeated for the third consecutive week, as Carroll defeated Concordia (WI) on Saturday afternoon. Carroll was victorious by scores of 16-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-22.   

Midway through the second set, junior libero/defensive specialist recorded her 1000th career dig. McGough becomes the 12th Pioneer to reach the milestone. McGough is on pace to move into the top-five in digs in school history by the end of the season. McGough's season total sits at 1,010 with 14 matches remaining. The South Elgin, IL native also has 80 career aces and 233 career assists. McGough has helped lead the team to the best start in school history. 

SET 1 (25-16 CUW) 

The Falcons had the first words as they jumped to a 7-1 lead early. Carroll was unable pull closer than five points in the set as Concordia closed the set out with a score of 25-16. Grace Perret led the Pios in the first set with four of her 11 kills. Freshman Ashley Miller recorded five of her 16 assists in the opening frame while McGough had eight digs.  

SET 2 (25-23 Carroll) 

Carroll withstood the first punch and came back in the second set, delivering a blow of their own to pick up the second set victory. The Pioneers got up big, leading 13-4 at one point, before CUW dug in to go on a 11-4 run before Carroll closed the set out. Five different Pioneers recorded two kills in the 2nd set, with Rebekah Andreae leading the way with a .667 attack percentage on three kill attempts. Payton Depies had six of her 17 assists in the second set, while Andreae recorded two more blocks. Miller tallied two of her fours aces in the set as well. McGough recorded her 1000th dig and two more for six in the second set. 

SET 3 (25-20 Carroll) 

After the first set blunder, it was no looking back for the Pioneers as they closed the third set out 25-20, two move into winning position for the fourth set. Concordia held the edge early as they got up 9-4, but Carroll settled in and rattled off a 15-5 run to pull ahead and set themselves up for closing out the set. In the third frame, Peyton Frost got hot and slammed home five of her 10 kills. Depies got seven more assists and one service ace in the set. Andreae stuffed one at the net, while Perret and Kylie Wittnebel got their hands on one more for a block assist in the frame. 

SET 4 (25-22 Carroll) 

Carroll put the final nail in the coffin in the fourth set, winning 25-22. Carroll led wire-to-wire in the last set, but the Falcons never gave up as the set was within four points for a majority of the frame. Frost, Perret, and Taylor Raley all tallied three kills in the final frame, with McGough recording five assists and seven digs. The team found six more blocks along the way to close out the victory. 

Carroll returns to action with their second CCIW matchup, traveling to Millikin University. The match in Decatur will begin at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 25.
