DECATUR, Ill. - Carroll Volleyball dropped their second conference match Wednesday night, losing to a formidable opponent in #14 Millikin (14-2, 2-0 CCIW) in straight sets. Carroll (16-4,0-2 CCIW) had their three-match win streak snapped, the program's longest win streak of the century. There were 16 ties and four lead changes in the match, ultimately ending in the Big Blue's favor by scores of 25-20, 25-10, 25-17.
Offensively, senior Peyton Frost led the Pioneers with eight kills and a .467 attack percentage. Kylie Wittnebel and Bronwyn Rowse were close behind, both contributing six and five kills in the match, respectively. Freshman Ashley Miller led the team with 13 assists. Defensively, McGough led the way with 23 digs and Wittnebel contributed four blocks
SET 1 (25-20 Millikin)
Carroll hung tough in the first match, hovering within 2-3 points for much of the set, before Millikin closed the set out with three straight points. Frost and Wittnebel had three kills as the team had their best attack percentage of the night at .219 in the first frame. McGough had six digs and Payton Depies led the team with five assists in the opening frame.
SET 2 (25-10 Millikin)
Millikin had all the answers in the second set, starting with a 13-4 run and ending with an 11-6 run to close the frame out. Senior Grace Perret registered two of six kills in the frame to lead the Pios. Miller paced the team with three assists. Defensively, Taylor Raley led the frame with three digs and Wittnebel tallied another block.
SET 3 (25-17 Millikin)
Carroll showed more fight in the final frame, going point for point with Millikin through the first 28 rallies. With the score 14-14, Millikin rattled of an 11-3 run to close out the match. Frost had four more kills and a .333 attack percentage. McGough had seven of her digs in the final frame and Rebekah Andreae registered a block assist.
Carroll gets a much deserved week off, returning to action in a home triangular on Friday, October 4. Matches against Augustana and Dubuque begin at 4:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., respectively.
